Our Mission

Turning DEI from a Slogan into
Real Action

Sickle cell warriors face a double burden — the disease itself and the systemic inequities that deny them the care they deserve.

The Obi Ogbonnia Sickle Cell Foundation's DEI Campaign addresses the deep-rooted disparities that sickle cell warriors face globally. From inadequate healthcare access in underserved communities to discrimination in workplaces and educational institutions — our campaign drives systemic, lasting change.

Six Pillars of Action

Our Campaign Framework

Six interconnected pillars that together create a comprehensive ecosystem of equity for sickle cell warriors everywhere.

Anti-Stigma Education

Fund workshops and school programs to dispel myths about sickle cell disease. Foster community acceptance and reduce discrimination through evidence-based education initiatives across schools, communities, and healthcare settings.

Equitable Healthcare Access

Subsidise specialised care, pain management, and genetic counselling for underserved communities. Break down financial and geographic barriers to ensure every warrior receives the care they are entitled to.

Workplace Inclusion Training

Partner with employers to create sickle cell-friendly workplace policies — including flexible hours, emergency care access, and accommodation frameworks that empower warriors to thrive professionally.

Educational Scholarships

Support scholarships for young warriors to pursue vocational training or higher education. Ensuring that sickle cell disease never becomes a barrier to learning, growth and achieving one's full potential.

Advocacy & Policy Reform

Lobby for laws ensuring disability rights protections and equitable health funding aligned with SDG 10. Drive national and international policy change that puts sickle cell warriors at the forefront of healthcare legislation.

Community Outreach

Organise cultural events and storytelling platforms to amplify warrior voices and promote inclusion. Build bridges across communities, creating a powerful support network that celebrates identity and resilience.

Global Framework

Aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals

Our campaign maps directly onto the United Nations' Global Goals framework — ensuring every initiative drives measurable, internationally recognised progress for sickle cell warriors and their communities.

Warrior

Before OOSCF, I had to choose between buying my medication and feeding my family. The DEI campaign changed that reality — now I have access to subsidised care and a scholarship for my daughter.

The workplace training program transformed how my employer sees sickle cell disease. I no longer have to hide my condition or fear losing my job during a crisis. That is true inclusion.

The OOSCF scholarship gave me the chance to complete my degree in Biochemistry. I am now researching sickle cell treatments — turning my own battle into a weapon for others' healing.
